Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology is the branch of medicine specialising in the treatment of cancers (oncology) with the use of radiation. The part of the service that delivers the radiation treatments is called Radiation Therapy. You may hear the two terms; radiation oncology, and radiation therapy, used interchangeably for our service.

Radiation therapy is a crucial component of cancer treatment and can also be used to manage some benign conditions. It involves the use of high-energy radiation to target and destroy cancer cells or alleviate symptoms.

Radiation therapy plays a vital role in the comprehensive treatment plan for cancer patients, often used in conjunction with surgery and chemotherapy to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.
